CANCELLED: JRB Elite Summer 2020 Program

As we continue to monitor and navigate through the evolving COVID-19 situation in Manitoba, we have decided to formally cancel the JRB Elite Summer 2020 program. The decision was made based on the advice of our trusted public health officials and in accordance to Basketball Manitoba's stoppage of all basketball activities in our province until at least June 30, 2020.

While we were looking forward to the summer program and share in your disappointment, the health and safety of our athletes, their families, our coaches, and community as a whole remains the top priority.

We look forward to the day we can safely get back on the court together. Stay safe and take care.

Sturgeon Heights Fedak Signs With CMU Men’s Basketball

It wil be a reunion of sorts for Jesse Fedak and CMU head coach Scott Martin, who combined as part of the Team Manitoba Provincial u17 boys program last summer. Though the 6'4 forward was unable to complete the senior year of his high school campaign with top-ranked Sturgeon Heights this season, Fedak helped his Huskies to the 2020 Zone Championship and ended his career with a selection to the 'AAAA' Boys Graduating All-star team at the Basketball Manitoba Awards earlier this month.

"Jesse has had top-coaching throughout his high school and club progression and I think he will contribute for us right away," said Martin of Fedak. "He is a very smart and unselfish player and we're very happy to have him joining our program."

Despite the abrupt ending to his Grade 12 season, Fedak has built an accomplished high school basketball resumé while at Sturgeon Heights. With Fedak on the court, the Huskies captured the Manitoba JV Provincial Championship where Fedak took home Most Valuable Player honours. He also earned the Player's Choice Award in 2019.

"I would like to thank my family for supporting me throughout my basketball journey as well as all the coaches I have had over the years," said Fedak. "Special thanks to Marlin Kraus, Evan Cox and Steve Tackie for pushing me to be better and to develop my game. I'm very excited to continue playing basketball with CMU this season."

As a club player, Fedak has won a Provincial Club Championship with the Junior Bisons, a program that he has been part of for the past 7 seasons.

The CMU Blazers compete in the Northern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC) as well as the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC).

Bisons Men's Basketball Add Local Talent Sam Jensen for 2020-21 Season

The Sturgeon Heights combo wing joins Manitoba with experience in the Junior Bisons club program.

WINNIPEG — Coming off one of the best seasons in program history, Bisons men's basketball added one of the top talents in Manitoba on Friday, as Sam Jensen will join the Herd for the 2020-21 season.

Jensen, 17, arrives at Manitoba from Sturgeon Heights Collegiate in Winnipeg. This year's MHSAA and Winnipeg Sun poll ranked him as one of the top ten players in the province, touting that his shooting ability and defence makes him "one of the top university prospects graduating this season."

Jensen's stats bear that out, as he's coming off a season where he averaged over 25 points per game with the Huskies, along with seven rebounds and seven assists. The 6'4" combo wing was part of a 2018 junior varsity team that went undefeated (25-0) on their way to a provincial championship. Jensen was a MHSAA provincial all-star that season.

The Winnipeg-born player also has ties to Team Manitoba, where he's been a member of both the 15U and 17U teams. He's played club ball with the Junior Bisons program and has been an honour roll student at Sturgeon Heights.

"We are very excited to have Sam join our program," said Bisons head coach Kirby Schepp, who enters his 12th season in 2020-21.

"He's received outstanding coaching from Marlin Kraus with the Junior Bisons and Stephen Tackie at Sturgeon Heights. He combines size for his position, athleticism, and outstanding shooting ability while being a great student. He will fit in perfect with the rest of the guys and the culture we have established at Manitoba."

"I'm excited to join the Bisons program," said Jensen in a statement. "I'm looking forward to taking my game to the next level and thankful for all the great coaches over the years, especially Marlin Kraus and Stephen Tackie, who have helped me become the player I am today."

Bisons men's basketball are coming off a 2019-20 season that saw them finish 16-4 in the regular season, their most wins since joining Canada West. They qualified for the conference semi-final but lost a tightly contested game in overtime to the Alberta Golden Bears.
